The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has launched the Virtual Open Schooling (VOS) during the year 2014-15 to serve learners through online education and skill development. In this virtual open schooling system, the learners get an opportunity to study a course or build their career online and gain credit for certification purpose. Also the certificates issued by NIOS are accepted for higher education, Govt. jobs and all other purposes. The certificates issued by NIOS will be accepted by all the National/State Boards and all the Universities. You are also eligible to do any further course from a open university. Like Netaji Subhas Open University and Indira Gandhi National Open University, it also provide distance education on some courses.

  • Class VIII Pass or a Self Certificate as given in the Admission Form from recognized Board
  • 14 years as on 31 st July 2018 (born on or before 31/07/2004) [For BLOCK 1] & 14 years as on 31 st January 2019 (born on or before 31/01/2005) [For BLOCK 2]

Course Fee:

  • For 5 Subjects – Rs. 1485/- for Male, Rs. 1210/- for Female, Rs. 990/- for Exempted Category(SC,ST,Ex-Serviceman,PWD)
  • For each additional Subjects – Rs. 600/- for Male, Rs. 600/- for Female, Rs. 600/- for Exempted Category(SC,ST,Ex-Serviceman,PWD)

Note that, In case the Secondary level examination is not passed from a recognised Board, admission at Sr. Secondary level will not be considered.

On-line Admissions for learners who want to appear in October-November, 2018 examinations (Stream-2): 

This stream for On-line admission will open from 01.05.2018 to 30.06.2018 for all those applicants who had appeared but could not clear or who were eligible but could not appear in the Public Examination of Secondary/Senior Secondary level from any recognized Examination Board. They are also eligible to complete their remaining course from NIOS.

NIOS Admission and Application Process

To take admission in WBCROS, you have to fill up the application form offline. Follow the below-mentioned steps to apply –
  • Visit the official website of NIOS- www.nios.ac.in and read all the guidelines and terms of conditions very carefully.
  • Register yourself by putting all the necessary information carefully. Learner registers himself with NIOS website by submitting an e-mail ID and password.
  • Attach the applicants Photograph in the mentioned field.
  • Mention correct postal address where I-card, Self Learning Material etc., will be sent by NIOS.
  • Pay the Application fees Online/ Offline.
  • After successfully submitting the Application Fees, an Acknowledgement Receipt is generated and sent back to the learners e-mail ID indicating his/her unique Reference Number, his/ her personal details, fees details, etc.
  • It is informed to all applicants that after final submission of data, take a print out of computer generated Application Form (NIOS Copy), Acknowledgment Receipt (Learner’s Copy), instructions to be followed by the applicants and a address slip of the addressee at which the application to be sent would be printed. Learners are also advised to read the instructions carefully before application are dispatched to the NIOS. While Application Form is dispatched to NIOS, it may be ensured that only NIOS copy of the Admission Form along-with the enclosures may be sent.
  • The application and the enclosures may be kept carefully in a good quality envelope on which the address slip printed from the computer may be pasted. The learner’s copy should be retained by the learner for future reference.
  • The learner is advised to dispatch the Application Form through Speed Post services of the Postal Department and keep the original receipt issued by Post Office for future reference.

Procedure for On-line Admission through AI (Study Centre)/Common Service Centre/Authorised Facilitation Centre

All AIs (Study Centres) of NIOS are authorized to open on On-line Registration Counter for facilitating learners to take On-line admission. They will also help the applicants in pre-admission counselling, choice of Study Centres/Course, Medium of Instruction, Transfer of Credit, Credit Accumulation and other features of NIOS etc. The AI will follow the same procedure for On-line registration. The AI and other agencies will provide a copy of acknowledgement receipt containing the reference number generated by computer to students for future correspondence with NIOS.

Re-Admission

The learners of NIOS at Secondary/Senior Secondary level who have completed their validity period of five years of admission, but could not complete the course till now, are eligible to take Re-admission with NIOS. The credit of subjects passed (of a maximum of four subjects) in the previous admission will be transferred on submission of the original Marksheet for seeking as a fresh admission, only if these subjects are passed by the learners through NIOS during the last ten years. But re-admission is not allowed to the applicants of NIOS whose admission is still valid, means within 5 year of admission.

Important Credentials/ Documents

You have to upload the following credentials at the time of form fill up –

  • Proof of Date of Birth
  1. Attested copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or District Office of the Registrar of Birth and Deaths for those born on or after 26.01.1989.
  2. Attested copy of Passport Issued by Govt. of India OR
  3. Original Transfer Certificate/School Leaving Certificate showing applicant’s date of birth, issued by the school last attended by the applicant.
  4. Attested copy of Aadhaar Card issued by the Agency of Govt. of India.
  • Proof of Residence
  1. Ration Card, or Aadhar Card, or Appointment Letter from the Employer on Letter Head, or water/telephone/ electricity bill/statement of running bank account or income tax assessment order/ Election Commission’s Voter Identity Card, Parents Passport in case of minor.
  2. For an applicant living in a rented accommodation, any proof of permanent address along with any proof of present rented accommodation will be accepted.
Please note, Admission Forms received without any required supporting documents may be rejected and fee will not be refunded.

Transfer of Credit (TOC)

Ex-Secondary/Senior Secondary learners of the School Education who have passed in at least one subject, but have not qualified in the course, may seek admission in the respective course at NIOS and avail facility of TOC.
The learners who have passed at least one subject, but have not qualified in the course from recognised State Boards may apply for TOC facility in maximum of two subjects provided their result data are available in the concerned Boards official website for verification. In case the result data is not available on the website, the learner will get his/her Transfer of Credit (TOC) data verified from the concerned Board and will submit the same with the Admission Application Form.
