The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has launched the Virtual Open Schooling (VOS) during the year 2014-15 to serve learners through online education and skill development. In this virtual open schooling system, the learners get an opportunity to study a course or build their career online and gain credit for certification purpose. Also the certificates issued by NIOS are accepted for higher education, Govt. jobs and all other purposes. The certificates issued by NIOS will be accepted by all the National/State Boards and all the Universities. You are also eligible to do any further course from a open university. Like Netaji Subhas Open University and Indira Gandhi National Open University, it also provide distance education on some courses.

NIOS Admission and Application Process
- Visit the official website of NIOS- www.nios.ac.in and read all the guidelines and terms of conditions very carefully.
- Register yourself by putting all the necessary information carefully. Learner registers himself with NIOS website by submitting an e-mail ID and password.
- Attach the applicants Photograph in the mentioned field.
- Mention correct postal address where I-card, Self Learning Material etc., will be sent by NIOS.
- Pay the Application fees Online/ Offline.
- After successfully submitting the Application Fees, an Acknowledgement Receipt is generated and sent back to the learners e-mail ID indicating his/her unique Reference Number, his/ her personal details, fees details, etc.
- It is informed to all applicants that after final submission of data, take a print out of computer generated Application Form (NIOS Copy), Acknowledgment Receipt (Learner’s Copy), instructions to be followed by the applicants and a address slip of the addressee at which the application to be sent would be printed. Learners are also advised to read the instructions carefully before application are dispatched to the NIOS. While Application Form is dispatched to NIOS, it may be ensured that only NIOS copy of the Admission Form along-with the enclosures may be sent.
- The application and the enclosures may be kept carefully in a good quality envelope on which the address slip printed from the computer may be pasted. The learner’s copy should be retained by the learner for future reference.
- The learner is advised to dispatch the Application Form through Speed Post services of the Postal Department and keep the original receipt issued by Post Office for future reference.

Important Credentials/ Documents
You have to upload the following credentials at the time of form fill up –
- Proof of Date of Birth
- Attested copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or District Office of the Registrar of Birth and Deaths for those born on or after 26.01.1989.
- Attested copy of Passport Issued by Govt. of India OR
- Original Transfer Certificate/School Leaving Certificate showing applicant’s date of birth, issued by the school last attended by the applicant.
- Attested copy of Aadhaar Card issued by the Agency of Govt. of India.
- Proof of Residence
- Ration Card, or Aadhar Card, or Appointment Letter from the Employer on Letter Head, or water/telephone/ electricity bill/statement of running bank account or income tax assessment order/ Election Commission’s Voter Identity Card, Parents Passport in case of minor.
- For an applicant living in a rented accommodation, any proof of permanent address along with any proof of present rented accommodation will be accepted.

Transfer of Credit (TOC)
The learners who have passed at least one subject, but have not qualified in the course from recognised State Boards may apply for TOC facility in maximum of two subjects provided their result data are available in the concerned Boards official website for verification. In case the result data is not available on the website, the learner will get his/her Transfer of Credit (TOC) data verified from the concerned Board and will submit the same with the Admission Application Form.
